French international Dimitri Payet has drawn interest from English giants Manchester United following an impressive run of performances over the last year. Jose Mourinho is keen on adding creativity on the flanks and has identified the West Ham United star as a viable target.
Mourinho is a big fan of the 29-year-old attacking player and has made him a top priority in the upcoming transfer window as he continues to mould his side into title contenders.
Payet, who has been in terrific form over the last season, signed a new £125,000-a-week contract at West Ham in February that ties him to the club for five years. While the odds of him leaving the Hammers in January are not very high, renewed offers in the summer could shorten Payet’s stay at the London stadium.
The prospect of playing for one of the top clubs at this stage of his career makes the situation very vulnerable. And according to the Mirror, the 20-time English champions are looking to prize away Payet with a massive bid.
Payet was the best player for the Hammers last season and also impressed for France in the Euro Cup. His technique and dribbling skills have often been praised by critics and fans alike. He is also renowned for his deadly free-kicks thus making him an asset for Slaven Bilic’s side.
He might be the final piece of the puzzle for Mourinho. Creativity and pace on the wings are the two things that United seem to be lacking at this moment and Payet could be the perfect answer.
Last season, the French sensation, scored nine times in the Premier League as the east Londoners finished the season 7th. Although they managed to reject all offers for their main man in the summer, a big money move could be on the cards.
Payet has not started this season as well as he would have expected and West Ham are hovering around the relegation zone. This shows how vital the Frenchman is for the Slave Bilic’s team. Payet has scored only one league goal this season so far which was an incredible solo goal and definitely a contender for the goal of the season.
Manchester United have to shell out in excess of £35m if they want to persuade West Ham into selling their star man. United are also rumoured to be keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco.
