Masked man poses as St Pauli manager to unveil new signing in his absence

In this day and age of social media and transfer rumours, nothing gives fans confirmation of a new signing than the official Twitter handle tweeting an image of the player and manager holding up the club’s kit. So nothing seemed amiss when 2. Bundesliga club St Pauli announced the new signing of striker Marvin Ducksch.

But a closer look at the image paints a different picture. Take a good look at the second division club’s manager Ewald Lienen on the left of the image. Notice anything different?

If you did not, then the club did a fantastic job of covering for their absent manager by making another man wear a mask of their boss, beaming alongside their new signing (who does not exactly look impressed).

Credit to the club, though, for pulling it off in the first place. It gave the fans and social media users a good laugh and the club themselves later tweeted a picture of the mask and said that it was a one-off incident.

FSV Mainz also got in on the act soon after and had the “St Pauli manager announce” one of their own signings too!
