Massive week for Chelsea as Mourinho finally gets to Pellegrini!

Mourinho: The master of mindgames?

Mourinho: The master of mindgames?

I’m not sure how everyone else feels at the moment, but I am of the opinion that these past seven days have been huge for Jose Mourinho. A victory at City followed by another at home to Newcastle as City dropped five points in the same period. Most importantly of all, it appears that Mourinho has Pellegrini rattled as his mind games are beginning to get to the Manchester City manager.

Jose joked on Friday:

“Everything I say and do are mind games. The only thing that is not mind games are the results”

Of course the “Happy one” was being sarcastic in response to a question from the press in attendance but it seems that the master is working his magic yet again.

After constantly claiming that Chelsea are third favourites in the race for the Premier League title and once again stating that next season will be the season we consider ourselves a contenders, we now sit top of the League after a disastrous weekend for City and Arsenal.

With thirteen games to go, nine of them against bottom half teams in the League and of the four against our direct rivals, only one away, Chelsea and Mourinho have their own destiny in their hands. What a difference a week makes!

Has Pellegrini let Mourinho get under his skin?

Has Pellegrini let Mourinho get under his skin?

As for Pellegrini? Well just have a look at some of his comments since the Chelsea defeat on Monday night and you can see that it looks as though Mourinho has wound him up!

In addition to making the excuse of having Aguero, Fernandinho and Nasri missing against us last Monday (despite all three playing against us when they lost at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season), He spoke again to the press before City drew 0-0 at Norwich on Saturday and said of Chelsea and Mourinho:

“This is the team that has spent the most money in the last 10 years, the team that has spent most money this year and the team that spent the most money in the transfer window. Maybe it is a small horse if the manager thinks like that but he has shown in the last few games he has a strong team with some great players.

I think José knows he is a favourite [for the Premier League title] but he says such things so that if he wins he will have the merit but if he loses he does not have the responsibility. It is the way he acts. Everyone acts the way they think is better for the team.

It’s very easy to every week say what you think is better for you. There’s a famous sentence: ‘Lie, lie, but some things always remain.”

What do you think? Has he got under Pellegrini’s skin? I think he has!

Of course all this means nothing this week if we travel to West Brom tomorrow night and not pick up three more important points before we head back to Eastlands on Saturday for the FA Cup.

Chelsea play 24 hours before both City and Arsenal and extend our lead at top with a victory to put pressure on both of them to get the same result. City play Sunderland and Arsenal play United both at home.

Just imagine of things pan out the way we would like them to this week and we are still top of the League heading into the FA Cup this weekend. Mourinho’s press conference should be interesting and I am sure that once again, he will do his best to wind up his rivals in any press conference he has.

I cannot emphasise enough how massive this week has been on and off the pitch. We have seen the first real sign from Pellegrini that Mourinho is getting to him.

Never under estimate the influence of Jose Mourinho!
