Match Preview: Manchester United vs Manchester City

It’s the mother of all matches, as Manchester United are set to host neighbours Manchester City at Old Trafford on Tuesday, in what promises to be a footballing delight for the neutrals. The Citizens trounced the Red Devils 4-1 earlier in the season, and the defending champions would look to avenge their defeat to resurrect a faltering campaign. Moyes’ men currently sit seventh in the premier league, and a win against their fierce rivals could see them go level on points with sixth placed Everton, and remain in contention for a top four finish. With the double header against Bayern Munich coming up, the derby marks the start of a challenging fortnight for Manchester United. On the other hand, Pellegrini would be hoping to heap more misery on the under fire United boss, and bridge the gap at the top to three points.

Manchester United :

After a disappointing defeat at the hands of Liverpool, Manchester United have bounced back to win two games in succession, and would look to build on their mini revival against Manchester City on Tuesday night. Moyes will be buoyed by the form of Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata, who were central to United’s victory over West Ham on Saturday.

Michael Carrick partnered Phil Jones in defence against the Hammers, is expected to continue in that role. Smalling, who is nursing a calf injury, has an outside chance of making it to the starting 11. Antonio Valencia, who was left with a swollen eye after their win over Olympiakos, is likely to start down the right. Nemanja Vidic is suspended, while Robin Van Persie remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Vincent Kompany has served his one game suspension and will return to captain the side and replace Joleon Lescott. Sergio Aguero is still nursing an injured hamstring, however Edin Dzeko is likely to recover from his illness that kept him out of Saturday’s win over the Cottagers. Micah Richards and Matija Nastasic are closing in on a return, but remain unavailable for selection on Tuesday.
