Mehrajuddin Wadoo excited to play in the Indian Super League again

Wadoo excited to play in the ISL again

Mehrajuddin Wadoo was signed by Chennaiyin FC for the second season of the Indian Super League even before the draft took place. The 31-year-old, who has played for HAL, Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting, is excited to play for his new team who topped the ISL table last season but exited the competition in the semi-finals after a 4-3 aggregate loss to Kerala Blasters.

Speaking on the Lets Football programme on Star Sports the former Mohun Bagan player said, “Chennaiyin FC is a very good team. At one point of time, they seemed like they would be champions but unfortunately they missed out in the semi-finals.”

Wadoo who played for FC Pune City in last season’s ISL, himself missed out on a semi-final berth after losing the last two games of the season to Delhi Dynamos and Kerala Blasters by identical scores of 1-0. When quizzed about his experience in the inaugural edition of the cash-rich league the 31-year-old replied, “It was a great experience. I got to play with players I always dreamed of. I always learned some good things from them.”

Wadoo excited to play with Mendy

Now after moving to the South Indian city of Chennai, Wadoo stated his excitement of playing for his new team especially alongside Bernard Mendy in the Chennaiyin defense.

“All of the players are great. You know how we scored the goals. Mendy too was very good in defense. I’m very excited to play with such great players,” he told Lets Football.

When asked if had any message for the fans the former East Bengal player remarked, “Just keep supporting us like you did last year. The fans were excellent and the stadiums were full. The team is good and I’m looking forward to the next edition of the ISL.”

After his stint with FC Pune City in last season’s ISL, Wadoo stayed in Pune joining Bharat FC who had made it through to the I-League as a corporate team. After the ISL, the Srinagar-born player might have a difficult decision to make as Bharat FC along with rival club Pune FC are planning to shut down operations as such he would have to find himself a new club in the I-League.

However, Wadoo for now would be concentrating on the Indian Super League which kicks-off from the 3rd of October with his team squaring off with reigning champions Atletico de Kolkata in the opening game of the new season.

Wadoo will now travel to Perugia in Italy where Chennaiyin are going to start their pre-season under manager Marco Materazzi.
