AC Milan has confirmed the dismissal of head coach Filippo Inzaghi after just one season with the club.
The sacking of Filippo Inzaghi had been doing the rounds for some time with the club making it official only now. Former Sampdoria boss Sinisa Mihajlovic has been announced as his replacement.
The former World Cup winner started his coaching career with the Rossoneri during the 2012/13 season by coaching Milan’s under-19 team.
After the dismissal of former teammate Clarence Seedorf, Inzaghi took over as the head coach of Milan on 9th June, 2014. AC Milan made a good start to the season under him but eventually started to fizzle out as the Rossoneri failed to qualify for the Champions League as they finished 10th in the league. It was their worst league finish in 17 years.
A short statement released by the club's official website read: "AC Milan announces that it has sacked first-team coach Filippo Inzaghi and thanks him for the work he has done."
Mihajlovic appointment
The Yugoslavian Mihajlovic is the man chosen by the club to rejuvenate the club to it’s former glory. The 46-year-old has signed a two-year contract at Milan having parted ways with Sampdoria earlier this month.
He spent most of his senior playing career in Italy playing with the likes of Roma, Sampdoria, Lazio and AC Milan’s arch-rivals Inter Milan. He finished his career at Inter and took up an assistant coach’s role under Roberto Mancini.
Since then he’s had short stints at various clubs before coaching the Serbian national team in 2012 and then taking over Sampdoria in 2013. After finishing in 12th place in his first year in charge, he improved upon that last season finishing 7th ?before he left the club for Milan.
