Newcastle United’s hopes of signing Montpellier midfielder Remy Cabella have been dealt a huge blow as he has admitted playing for Manchester United is his “dream”, reports TalkSport.

The 23-year-old has been in sensational form for the Ligue 1 outfit this season and has been strongly linked with a move to St James’ Park, with a host of French players already with Alan Pardew’s side.

However, although the midfielder is keen on a switch to England, it appears his preferred destination is Manchester rather than Tyneside.

“We’ll see in May when it will be discussed. For now I am with Montpellier. It is a trust agreement. The price? It is the president who decides.

“Manchester United? You must ask my father who cares for me. Until there is something serious, I will say nothing. It is also a matter of respect for my club and Mr. Nicollin [Montpellier president].

“But Manchester United is always a dream for any player,” Cabella declared.

Pardew was hopeful that the Frenchman would replace Yohan Cabaye, who join Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in January, in the Magpies midfield but looks set to lose out on yet another transfer target to a Premier League rival.

Meanwhile it is unclear whether under fire Red Devils boss is interested in the Frenchman, but Arsenal have also shown an interest in the youngster.

Remy Cabella is Montpellier’s top scorer this season with 10 goals in 25 appearances. He also has five assists.
