Highly paid football stars will be removed, if Manchester City fail in UCL : Samir Nasri

Manchester City’s Samir Nasri has revealed that the club’s players may face an exit this summer if they fail to win in their Tuesday’s encounter against Bayern Munich in Tuesday fixture. City will crash out of the competition if they continue their poor form of the group stage by failing to win against the Germans and if any of the teams win from the game between AS Roma and CSKA Moscow.

New players and a change of everything if we fail

It is reported that Nasri told the reporters that the club’s two Premier League trophies in the past three years did not make City a “top club” and that the footballers in the team are highly paid to not do well in the European league.

“Let’s be honest, we need to do something or otherwise next year it is going to be new players, it’s going to be new everything,”

“That’s how we work when you play for a big team, a big club. You have to respond and show everyone you deserve to qualify.” said Nasri, who secured a new five-year contract last summer.

“In the last three years I have been here, we have won the league twice and been runners-up, but now we have to improve in the Champions League if we want to be a top club. It’s not enough to be top in your league if you don’t do anything in the Champions League. With the players we have, the owner gives us his trust and we have to return it in the Champions League.”

After four games of the Champions League, City have just two points, with top players Yaya Toure, Fernando and Clichy failing to leave a mark at the European level and even captain Vincent Kompany not achieving his premier league form. The 27-year-old further remarked that City are bound to feel like failures if they don’t qualify to the knock-out stage.

“Of course [we would]. With the salary of every player and the level of those players, 90 per cent of the team is world class, then not to qualify from the first round of the Champions League would be a huge blow for the club – and for us as well.”

“But the thing in Champions League is not just the talent. It’s not being a team. It’s the experience as well. We need to show that we are smart players and to use what happened in the last couple of years to improve. We still have a chance and we need to take it. Now is the moment.” He said.

Can’t repeat same mistakes made under Mancini : Nasri

Roberto Mancini

Nasri also defended Manuel Pellegrini, who has come for criticism over his soft approach towards his players, which has caused them to slip into a comfort zone, and not being tough like their former manager Roberto Mancini.

“For the moment we don’t perform in the Champions League and that is a reality,” he said.

“That is nothing to do with a comfort zone. The manager doesn’t give anyone comfort in what happened last year. It’s forgotten.” The former Arsenal player advised the players to recall the previous seasons under Mancini, wherein they won the title but lost the next trailling 11 points to Manchester United and also exited Champions League in the first round itself.

“We need to use what happened under Mancini in the second year,”

“We don’t want to repeat the same mistake. We are really lucky that we are two points behind with two games left and have a chance to qualify. We need to take it now because we are not going to have any favours from anyone else any more.” He concluded.

The current Premier League champions are still in the elite competition but if they fail to register a win today and the other group teams play out a draw. But, to get into the next round they will have to score six goals against AS Roma on their homeground Stadio Olympico next month.

There has been only two teams – FC Porto and Locomotiv Moscow, who have taken two points or less from the opening four groups games and qualified to the knockout stage.
