Real Madrid's long-standing Russian winger, Denis Cheryshev, completed a transfer to La Liga side Villarreal for a reported €7 million fee. The winger signed a five-year contract and will be leaving the Madrid club after a period of fourteen years spent throughout various youth levels.

Cheryshev spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia and spent the whole of the season before with the Yellow Submarine making twenty-six appearances and scoring four goals. The 25-year-old has since been welcomed back by multiple Villarreal players.

Real Madrid signed Cheryshev in 2002 as a young rising star. Incidentally, he made his professional debut for Real Madrid B against Villarreal in their 1-2 loss. Cheryshev impressed his coaches and managers as a youngster in the Real Madrid ranks but never made it big enough to get accepted into the senior team for whom he made only two appearances.

After his move was confirmed, Cheryshev released a statement thanking Real Madrid and more by saying, "Thank you Real Madrid for giving me the opportunity to become a professional footballer. It's been 14 years as a player of the club and I would not change it for anything.

"Thank you for showing me the values of a gentleman's club and forming me as a person. A Madridista to the heart leaves. My best wishes for the future. Hala Madrid," he added.

Real Madrid also thanked the Russian for his contribution to the club and released a statement that read, "Real Madrid and Villarreal have agreed the transfer of the player Denis Cheryshev.

"The club wishes to thank him for his dedication and professionalism over the years and wish him luck in his new career."

Villarreal have already sold Eric Bailly to Manchester United and Cheryshev's arrival at the club is a huge boost of confidence to the young squad.
