Manchester Dogs' Home, which last week was devastated in a huge fire killing 60 dogs has been given a five-figure donation amount and staff at the organisation believe that the anonymous person is none other than Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

The 24-year-old during his time at Manchester City was involved in volunteering work at the Home and taking time out to walk abandoned dogs while his own dog was in quarantine in Italy before his move from inter Milan. He had to wait for six months before he could get his pet over to the UK.

Spokesman Jane Smith said: “Mario owns a dog, but it was in quarantine in Italy so he used to come and walk all the dogs at the dogs’ home.

“We can’t yet confirm whether he made a donation but he is known as a big dog lover so it would make sense.”

Balotelli had famously requested Manchester City to allow his Labrador in the 2011 FA Cup Parade which was granted by the club.

the Italian regularly posts pictures of his pet Labrador Lucky on his official Twitter account.
