Operators of England’s top-flight rugby league competition, Super League has agreed a deal with Premier League champions Manchester United to continue playing their grand final game at the Old Trafford for the next four years.

The game has been played in the stadium from its first edition in 1998 and the extension comes before the Saturday’s 2013 Grand final featuring Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors.

“The Super League Grand Final is a world class sporting event and I am delighted that we have reached agreement with Manchester United for it to remain in a world class venue. The first Super League Grand Final was played at Old Trafford in 1998 but the stadium has provided the backdrop for some fantastic Rugby League memories for many decades. I am sure that will continue to be the case both this weekend and on November 30th, when Old Trafford hosts the hotly-anticipated final of Rugby League World Cup 2013,” said Nigel Wood, chief executive of Super League.

Manchester United’s group managing director Richard Arnold said that it is a privilege for the stadium to host the game.

“We’re excited about the extension of our relationship with Super League for Old Trafford to host the Super League Grand Final until 2017. The Grand Final is always a fantastic event and it’s a privilege for Old Trafford to host the players and fans of rugby league,” he said.
