Oscar to become 3rd highest paid player in world with China move

Oscar
Oscar has found opportunities limited at Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Oscar is likely to complete a move to join former manager Andre Villas-Boas’ side Shanghai SIPG in China. The numbers behind the deal are staggering and will make him the third-highest paid player in the world.

The deal worth £60 million is reportedly 90 percent complete and also further signals the growing thirst of Asian football for top talent in their respective domestic leagues.

The Brazilian will earn near £350,000 per week which is more than quadruple his current wage of £90,000 per week in London.

The 25-year old’s willingness to swap the Blues of West London to join the mega-rich Chinese side is largely due to the whopping figures on offer. Yet there is also an added incentive, which is to play more.

He is behind Nemanja Matic, N’Golo Kante and Cesc Fabregas for a starting berth in Chelsea’s 3-4-3 formation that has yielded so much success in the Premier League. The desire for more playing time is one of the reasons for Oscar’s decision to leave Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian has started only five out of the 16 games played so far in the top flight and made four substitute appearances, scoring in none of those games although registering one assist.

His form will suggest he may not be deserving of such high figures in the deal, but the Chinese clubs these days care less.

The numbers are mouthwatering and he becomes one of the highest earners in the game, behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

At the moment, Lavezzi’s net wage of £493,000 makes him the highest paid footballer on the planet while Ronaldo earns £440,000 at Real Madrid making him second highest paid ahead of Barcelona star forward Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale of Real Madrid, according to The Sun.

Oscar’s proposed wages will catapult him above the world’s most expensive player, Paul Pogba who is on £290,000 per week and several superstars in the game such as Neymar, who earns £200,000-weekly and Wayne Rooney who is on £300,000.

The transfer will also mean that Chelsea’s highest sale since compatriot David Luiz was secured by Paris Saint-Germain for £50 million in the summer of 2014.

The new challenge in China will give Oscar the room to operate firstly as footballer, but the mega shops in the Asian country will also begin to benefit from a possible lavish spending by the former Internacional midfielder.
