Phil Jones signs a new 4 year contract with Manchester United

Manchester United defender Phil Jones, 23 has signed new 4-year contract with the club. The former Blackburn Rovers man arrived at Old Trafford in 2011 and has made 128 appearances for the club since then and has also won the Premier League with the club in 2013.

The new contract will keep the defender at the club till June 2019 with an option to extend for one more year. He has become an important member of the Red Devils’ defence following the departure of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Louis van Gaal expressed his happiness about Jones penning a new contract at United.

“We are delighted that Phil has signed a new contract. He is a talented footballer with great versatility and can play in a number of positions,” he told the Manchester United official website.

He added: "Phil is a relatively young defender who is developing all the time. He missed some of last season due to injury but I was impressed by his professionalism and attitude during those periods."

Phil Jones followed fellow defender Chris Smalling in signing a new contract with Manchester United.

Speaking to about his new contract, ones said: "I am delighted to have signed a new deal. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far and am looking forward to continuing my development as a player.
