Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City are set to take on Arsene Wenger's men at the Etihad Stadium in a potential 4th place face-off, later tonight. Arsenal and Manchester City are in contention for the UEFA Champions League spots as they currently occupy 3rd and 4th place in the English Premier League table respectively.

The Gunners are on 67 points after 36 league matches, whereas, Manchester City have managed to acquire 64 points after having played the same number of Premier League matches.

However, the fact that Louis van Gaal's Manchester United are breathing down both of their necks with 63 points in its kitty, would mean that neither team will take tonight's encounter very lightly.

Manchester City have had a forgettable season this year. Inspite of having a formidable squad, the Citizens have only managed to clinch the Carling Cup after defeating Liverpool on penalties. Manuel Pellegrini's men have suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Southampton and Real Madrid in their previous outings.

Although their Chilean manager rested three vital footballers, namely Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bryune and Sergio Aguero against Southampton the decision, eventually, didn't quite pay off for the Manchester team.

After having lost their chance to win the 2015-16 Premier League to Claudio Ranieri's Leicester City, Manchester City suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu in a UEFA Champions League semi-final earlier this week.

The close defeat against Zinedine Zidane’s men meant that the only way City can qualify for the Champions League is if they finish in the top four.

Moreover, if the Citizens lose their 4th spot to their arch rivals, Manchester United at the end of this Premier League season, new manager Pep Guardiola would have to field his City side in the Europa League next season.

Arsenal, on the other hand, although a spot above Manchester City, surely wouldn’t take tonight’s match very casually. Arsene Wenger’s men have had an ordinary campaign this year as they were knocked out of both the FA Cup and Champions League by Watford and Barcelona respectively.

The Gunners manager, Arsene Wenger is currently under a lot of pressure after having being vehemently criticised by both the football pundits as well as the Arsenal fans.

Tonight’s match, therefore, is going to be an important one for the Frenchman who would definitely love to prove that he is still one of the best managers in modern day football.
