What’s the story?

The 'shock' of Manchester United signing Robin Van Persie from Arsenal is still fresh in the minds of the Gooners. They will soon forget that as another star is now set to follow the footsteps of the Dutchman.

If reports in the Sunday Mirror are to be believed, Mesut Ozil's advisors are in touch with Manchester United regarding a move to Old Trafford next summer. The German international is keen on joining the Red Devils according to the report.

In case you didn’t know...

Ozil's contract at Arsenal runs out at the end of the season. Reports suggest that talks have stalled between the club and the player since March and there is 'no chance' of him signing a new contract.

Jose Mourinho was the manager who signed Ozil at Real Madrid and he shares a good relationship with the player. Ozil revealed in his autobiography how Jose convinced him to move to Bernabeu in 2010.

“Real Madrid isn’t too big a move for you. Real Madrid is the only right move. Trust me. I’ll turn you into a regular player,” said Mourinho according to Ozil's autobiography.

The heart of the matter

Sunday Mirror reports that Ozil has set his mind on moving to Old Trafford next summer. He is reluctant to listen to any of the contract offers from the Gunners.

His advisors have already started talks with Manchester United according to the report and the Red Devils are also interested in him. Juan Mata is in his final year of his contract and the German might be the replacement for the former Chelsea star.

What’s next?

Ozil can sign a pre-contract with any club in January as he will be in the final six months of his contract at Arsenal. His team-mate, Alexis Sanchez will also be in the same position and reports suggest that United are also interested in signing him as well!

Author’s Take

Ozil would be a great signing in terms of quality but where he will fit in is the real question. Paul Pogba is the CAM Mourinho wants to play and Ozil will only be a backup to the Frenchman. Will Ozil accept the bench role? Only time will tell...
