Montpellier president Louis Nicollin believes Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc took himself to be a “baby Mourinho”, after the Parisian side were sent crashing out of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Blanc’s men were leading 3-1 from the first-leg in Paris, but were dumped out after a late Demba Ba goal gave Chelsea the 2-0 win they needed.

Montpellier president Louis Nicollin, 70, mentored Blanc as he came through Montpellier’s club youth ranks and going on to make his professional debut with the club in the 1980s. He insists that Blanc’s side were beaten on the night because the former Manchester United defender tried too hard to be like his counterpart, Jose Mourinho.

According to ESPN, Nicollin said: “Laurent, he’s taken a little blow on the head. Like that, he’s going to become again what he was at the start of the season with Paris Saint-Germain.

“He’ll be less… not pretentious, because there’s no need to exaggerate, but I think he took himself to be a little bit of a baby Mourinho.”

Blanc took over the club in the summer, after previous manager Carlo Ancelotti decided to move for pastures new and join Spanish giants, Real Madrid. Blanc’s side currently lead Ligue 1 comfortably, but many fans were frustrated at the manner of which their side went out of the UEFA Champions League.
