Queens Park Rangers continue to be active in the transfer market; roping in their sixth signing of the season with the arrival of Chilean international Eduardo Vargas on a season long loan from Italian outfit Napoli.

Vargas will now be team-mates Rio Ferdinand, Steven Caulker, Jordan Mutch, Leroy Fer and fellow Chile international Mauricio Isla who also joined on loan earlier this summer from Juventus.

The 24-year came to limelight with a series of impressive performance in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup in Brazil. His performances helped Chile to the knockout stages of the World Cup as he forged an excellent partnership with Alexis Sanchez to lead the Chilean charge.

Vargas, who has been capped 32 times by his national team, has scored 15 goals at the international stage.

His career at Napoli had seemingly stalled under Rafa Benitez, who sought to bring in Gonzalo Higuain to lead the attack. Vargas spent the earlier part of last season on loan at Gremio and the saw himself off-loaded to Valencia on another loan for the second half. He would go on to score 5 goals in 25 appearances for Valencia during the latter part of the season.

Vargas is expected to vie with Charlie Austin, Bobby Zamora and Loic Remy for a place in the R’s first XI, but is well capable of playing across the frontline in a variety of positions.

Harry Redknapp seemed delighted at having been able to bag the Chilean. Speaking to QPR’s website, the manager said: “Eduardo is a quality player. He’s sharp, he’s bright, and he’s very lively on and off the ball.

“He can play as a number nine, he can play in behind, he can play wide – he’s very versatile. I really liked the look of him during the World Cup and he’s a player our scouts have been looking at for some time.”
