Cristiano Ronaldo won his fourth Golden Shoe for scoring the most league goals in 2014/15

Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded the European Golden Boot in Madrid on Tuesday night after he topped the league goalscoring charts in the 2014/15 season. The Real Madrid star scored 48 goals in 35 matches in La Liga last season. His biggest rival Lionel Messi finished the season with 43 goals while the next best in Europe (taking into account the quality of the league and points given) was Sergio Aguero with 26 goals.

The award was the fourth in his career and he has now won the most European Golden Shoe awards, ahead of Lionel Messi who has won it thrice. Ronaldo had previously won it in 2007/08 (with Manchester United), 2010/11 and 2013/14 (with Real Madrid). No other player in the 47-year history of the award has won it more times.

The Portuguese star had his family – his mother and son – along with Madrid coach Rafa Benitez and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. Even Portugal’s ambassador to Spain was present at the function.

Ronaldo spoke at the event and said he neved imagined he would win the prestigious award four times.

“I never planned on winning four times,” Ronaldo said, according to Sky Sports. “Maybe one or two yes but never four. I always want more. I know I am the only one to have four but I want more. That implies winning trophies with the world's greatest club.

“This year will be no different and we want to win La Liga, the Cup and the Champions League. I hope we see each other again next year.”

Ronaldo is currently level with Raul as Real Madrid’s all-time highest goalscorer with 323 goals.

Ronaldo thanks everyone on Facebook

Ronaldo took to his Facebook page to thank the fans and the club for the ‘special moment’ and said he wanted to win more titles and trophies.

“What a special moment in my professional life! Winning four Golden Boots it’s a privilege for me and I’ll keep challenging myself because I wanna do better everytime and I wanna keep chasing for more records,” Ronaldo said on Facebook.

“I have to thank everyone in Real Madrid that made this possible and we wanna keep winning more titles and more trophies. Thank you everyone.”

Ronaldo’s son shows father the middle finger during his speech

While Ronaldo’s son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. has been in the news lately when deleted scenes from the Ronaldo movie were released, he was in the spotlight again when he appeared to show Ronaldo the finger when the Real Madrid forward was accepting his award.

Now we are pretty sure the five-year-old has no idea what it means, but it is funny nonetheless!
