Cristiano is the best ahead of Messi

Former Real Madrid left-back, Roberto Carlos, has opined that Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, deserves the FIFA Men’s World Player of the Year ahead of Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, and Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Griezmann, since the former Manchester United star is the best player in the world, according to the Brazilian.

The World Cup-winning left-back, who is considered as the greatest attacking wing-back of all time, represented Brazil a mammoth 125 times and believes that the former Sporting starlet will win the prestigious individual honour because of what he has done this year.

"Talking about Cristiano is very easy,” Roberto Carlos was quoted saying on FIFA’s official website. “He is the best in the world. A truly great player, and everyone keeps saying he continues scoring the most important goals of his career. Cristiano is the best in the world – still.

"Cristiano, for last season and everything he has done this season, already deserves to have won. For everything he represents and everything that he is doing for Spanish football and Real Madrid, I think he will win. He is a sensational player.”

Roberto Carlos continued praising the Real Madrid number 7 for his inhuman consistency—something which has led to many people considering the Portuguese as not only one of the best players of this era, but in the history of football.

"He is consistent and a team player from another level. I think that Cristiano, over the last few years, has been considered, not just by ex-players, managers [but by] people across the world, to be one of the best players of all time."

Roberto Carlos himself has been on the podium of this very award as he finished second to compatriot, Ronaldo Nazario, in 1997.

Meanwhile, with the Clasico up ahead, Cristiano Ronaldo could further enhance his chances to win the FIFA award by putting on a good impression in the game that could potentially decide where the title will head come May next year.

However, Lionel Messi has also been in sensational form and could turn the tide in his favour by displaying his best in the most important game of them all.

But this match is merely about the two legendary figures as both the teams would like to carve their title credentials by winning this encounter. With a lead of 6 points already, Real Madrid have the luxury of dropping points tonight, something which the Catalans can’t even think of.
