Real Madrid playmaker Xabi Alonso will be announcing his retirement from international football after the World Cup, reports Spanish daily Marca.

According to their report, the 33-year-old had already made up his mind to mark the end of his international career before the World Cup.

Having being part of the side in two European Championships and one World Cup winning campaign, Alonso has won 113 international caps for the La Roja, and have found the net on 16 occasions.

Alonso made his debut in 2003, and has been a pivotal member of the national team setup.

The reason behind him hanging up his boots at international level could be his commitment to Real Madrid, especially after he had signed a contract extension which will keep him with his current suitors till 2016.
