Just a week back, Leo Messi was diagnosed with renal colic and had to miss the Club World Cup semi-final clash against the Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande. But, “Cometh the hour, cometh the man”, Lionel Messi did what he is known best for- stepping up and helping his team win the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan.

Argentine maestro Lionel Messi added one more unique record to his whopping tally of records by becoming the only player on the planet to score in all 7 different possible competitions in a calendar year. Messi scored the first of the Barcelona’s 3 goals in their win over Argentine giants River Plate in the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup Final.

Samuel Eto’o is the only other player to score in 7 different competitions in a calendar year(2010), but the Cameroonian played in 8 different competitions that year.

Messi has already scored in the La Liga, Copa Del Rey, UEFA Champions League, Copa America, UEFA Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup and by scoring in the Club World Cup, he broke the old record of a player scoring in 6 different competitions in a calendar year which was held by both Messi(2011) and Pedro(2009).

Here are the other records that were broken in Barca’s Club World Cup triumph:-

176 - No. of goals scored by Barcelona in a calendar year, breaking the old record of 175 goals scored in the year 2012.

1st since 1988 - Luis Suarez is the first Uruguayan player to score in the International Cup and the Club World Cup final since Santiago Ostalaza’s goals.

5 - No. of goals scored by Luis Suarez, it is the highest tally of goals in a single Club World Cup edition.

134 - Total no goals by the charismatic Barca trio ‘MSN’ - Messi(47), Neymar(41) and Suarez(46)

26 - No. of trophies won by Iniesta and Messi while playing for Barcelona, beating the previously held Xavi’s record of 25 trophies.

3 – No. of times Messi and Iniesta have won 6 trophies in a calendar year.

88 - No. of trophies Barca has won, at least 6 more than any other team from the top 5 leagues.

3 - No. of FIFA Club World Cup titles, most by any club.

50 - This is Barcelona’s 50th win for the calendar year 2015, a club record.

28 - No. of titles for Andreas Iniesta, most by a Spanish player in the football history. (Previous best: Xavi-27)

29 - No. of titles for Dani Alves, most by a defender in the football history.
