Ronaldo is set to stay

It looks like Real Madrid have heeded Ronaldo’s advice to be ‘smart’. Spanish radio show Cadena SER have reported that the club are set to offer a 3-year contract extension to keep him at the club until 2021.

Ronaldo recently expressed his desire to finish his career at the club and Madrid have responded to his statement in positive fashion. The channel are claiming club president Florentino Perez and Ronaldo will sign the contract right after the UEFA Champions League final.

During the first few months of the season, there were doubts about Ronaldo’s form. The forward was not at his scintillating best with several critics writing off his season. But they should have known better as the player came roaring back.

The superstar finished the La Liga season as the 2nd highest scorer and also inspired his team to the finals of the Champions League, a tournament in which he has scored 3 hat-tricks. Now he has the opportunity to help Los Blancos lift their second UEFA Champions League crown in the last 3 seasons.

Real will be facing Atletico Madrid in the final and Diego Simeone’s men are definitely no pushovers. Their crosstown rivals were almost on par with Barcelona and Real Madrid this season as they finished third, just 2 points behind their much wealthier rivals.

There will still be scars from that famous final from two years ago for Atleti and they will certainly be out for revenge on Saturday night. Having already defeated Barcelona in the quarter-finals and Bayern in the semi-finals they will be up for the fight in Milan.

Ronaldo wants to retire at Madrid

Ronaldo feels there is no other club he would rather play for than Real Madrid and has stated his desire to retire at the club. “I really am happy and I want to stay at this club because I don't see any club which is better than Real Madrid. If you weigh everything up, there's nowhere better.”

There have been several clubs who have been linked with the forward in recent times, including Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, but he put those rumours to rest. “Everyone should just forget about it. Because Real Madrid is the best” he told sports programme Jugones.

Back in 2013 when he had signed an extension he reiterated his love for the club again amid several swirling rumours. “If you are at the top, you want to stay there. And Madrid is the top in football. For me this club is the biggest there is, I'm extremely happy.” His commitment to the club remains the same going by his recent statements.
