Silva is the type of player that United might consider as Mourinho might start thinking ahead to January with the gruelling week he has had.

Mourinho has deployed Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial and Ashley Young on the wings but none have convinced him enough to cement a starting berth i the first team.

Silva is an exciting prospect and has scored three goals already this season and has a respectable tally of 20 goals in 97 games for Monaco. Silva missed the Euros because of a thigh injury and was replaced by one of the tournament's best players, Renato Sanchez.

Silva had a brilliant game against Spurs as the London side offered far too much space for the midfielder who has likened by many of having a similar playing style to David Silva of Man City.

On his performance against Spurs, Monaco manager Jardim said, “He had a very good game. He fitted in perfectly to our tactical plans, he created problems offensively for the Spurs defence throughout and he showed what an agile, nimble player he is. He was very important on the transitions, he helped us to keep the ball when he had it. "
