Louis van Gaal's time as Manchester United manager will come to an end on 21 May when the Red Devils take on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

According to The Sun, Jose Mourinho has been assured that he will be the manager at Old Trafford next season. He is without a job since Chelsea sacked him as their manager last season.

The Portuguese tactician has publicly expressed his desire to return to management in the summer and also suggested that his preferred choice would be to continue in England. It is believed that negotiations were at an advanced stage earlier this week and the deal has been agreed between United and the ex-Real Madrid coach.

Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has agreed to join the 20-time English champions' local rivals Manchester City. The former Barcelona manager will earn £15m-a-year at the Etihad.

Mourinho has reportedly agreed a three-year deal at United, which will see him earn £60m during his tenure at the club. This will make him the highest paid manager in the history of the sport.

Van Gaal has one year left on his contract at United and he can still help his current employers finish in the top four and also win the FA Cup. Even if the former Bayern and Barcelona coach manages to achieve that feat, he will be relieved of his duties.

Apart from Mourinho, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, Van Gaal's assistant and United legend Ryan Giggs and former Red Devils defender Laurent Blanc had emerged as candidates to replace the Dutchman at Old Trafford.

The Argentine coach admitted that he has verbally agreed to extend his stay at White Hart Lane. Pochettino said, "It was an easy decision when you feel the love of the people and the potential of the club is massive, so why change?"

"We create a good atmosphere on the training ground and I think we can achieve big things in the future. I believe in this project and this club. I want to stay here."

PSG have also confirmed they are not willing to let Blanc leave the Parc des Princes after they completed the domestic double.

In addition to this, the decision makers at United have always preferred Mourinho as the rightful candidate to take the club forward. The same was communicated to the former Chelsea boss.

With Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, Guardiola at City, Antonio Conte at Chelsea, Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and Mourinho's potential move to United along with Pochettino’s Tottenham and Claudio Ranieri's Leicester City, the Premier League is surely going to be exciting next season.
