Finally, some good news for Liverpool fans as Raheem Sterling is set to sign a new deal at the club tying him down till 2020, according to reports. After Steven Gerrard’s announcement of leaving Liverpool after representing them for 17 years, the Reds fans will welcome this news with delight.

Sterling was on a £35,000 per week deal which ran till the end of the 2017 season, but Liverpool seem like they have secured the 20-year-old services for five more years. Talks between the club and Sterling’s representatives were going on for some time.

The young Englishman’s representatives were looking for £120,000 per week with Liverpool ready to offer £70,000. But, it looks like an agreement has been reached between the two parties and Sterling will put pen to paper in a highly incentivized deal, similar to other contracts given by Liverpool of late.

European giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were circling around Sterling and there were reports that both of them were ready to buy the England international for a large sum. Brendan Rodgers, however, recently said that he was not worried about his player’s contract situation. It is expected that the youngster will commit for the long-term by the end of the month.

Sterling has been in great form having scored three goals in five appearances since being deployed as the striker in Brendan Rodgers’ new 3-4-3 formation. Getting the winner of the Golden Boy award, which is awarded to the best young player in Europe, to a long-term deal will be a significant boost for Liverpool after news that their captain will leave the club at the end of the season.
