Real Madrid confirm Casemiro has fractured his leg

Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has suffered a fracture in his left leg, the La Liga club said on Thursday. The Brazil international was substituted in Real's 2-0 win over Espanyol on Sunday and played no part in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Villarreal and 2-2 draw against Las Palmas.

"Following tests carried out today on Casemiro at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a fracture to the central third of his left fibula. His recovery will continue to be assessed," the club said in a statement.

The 24-year-old, who has made five appearances in all competitions for Madrid this season, is likely to miss Brazil's World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Venezuela next month.

With Casemiro injured, Toni Kroos has taken up the mantle of the defensive midfielder with James Rodriguez playing in the number ‘10’ position. However, the experiment seems to not be working as Zidane’s men have struggled to maintain clean sheets after Casemiro’s absence.

Zidane says relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo is back to normal

Real Madrid were held to a 2-2 draw against Las Palmas and the major talking point about the draw was Ronaldo being substituted by Zidane in the 72nd minute. The Portuguese superstar was visibly unimpressed and was even spotted mouthing a foul-mouthed tirade sitting on the bench.

However, Real Madrid manager refuted any suggestions of a rift:

"Everything is normal. Cristiano wasn't the only one angry after the game but it's over now and we are thinking about tomorrow's game," the 44-year-old said.

"I understand the level of attention it received but it is what it is. I took the decision in the best (interests) of the player and that's not going to change anything."We have spoken about it. I'm not dumb and he's intelligent. We all have the same objectives, the two of us and the rest of the team."

Real Madrid take on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League tonight.
