Ridiculous rumour of the day: Manchester United set to trigger Luis Suarez’s reported release clause

Spanish paper Sport win the award for the most ridiculous rumour of the day in suggesting that Manchester United could be about to buy Luis Suarez for £65 million.

The Spanish report, picked up by the Metro, claims that this is £15 million higher than Real Madrid are prepared to go. They also speculate that Liverpool will be unable to stop him moving because there are reports that that particular fee will trigger a release clause.

This seems an unlikely move to happen, if anything because the last player to move between Liverpool and Manchester United was Phil Chisnall in 1964.

Additionally, it was Suarez’s goals that helped Liverpool finish in the Champions League, and who’s to say that his goals wouldn’t propel United back into the Champions League, knocking Liverpool out of the top four?

If Suarez is to leave, and the moment it seems unlikely it would appear that the obvious destination is Real Madrid. Other than that it is hard to imagine that Liverpool would sanction the sale of one of their star players to a divisional rival.

A strong World Cup for Suarez with Uruguay will definitely increase the attention that Liverpool star receives from other clubs but it will also increase the Red’s resolve to hold onto him.

This is one for the dreamers.
