Rio Ferdinand believes Marcus Rashford is currently the best striker in England

Rashford
The player everyone is talking about

There are plenty of contenders for the best striker in the Premier League, Sergio Aguero Zlatan Ibrahimovic among several others, but United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Marcus Rashford deserves that title this year.

The 18-year-old has turned into a sensation in the country, even travelling with the England national team for the Euros in the summer. The teen has made only 25 appearances so far for United and has scored 12 times which is a goal every other day.

In his article for the Evening Standard he wrote, "I think Marcus Rashford should be selected for the [England] senior squad next week and be unleashed against Malta. Including his hat-trick for the under-21s against Norway earlier this month, no English striker has scored more goals since he made his professional debut in February.”

"I don't care how old you are, that record warrants a place in the squad. He has been the best striker in this country since February in terms of output -- the statistics don't lie.”

Rashford no doubt has brilliant skill and if he continues in the vein of form he is in he could be one of the best in the country in the next few years. But to compare him to the best in England right might be overselling him a little bit.

The likes of Sergio Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are great examples of what Marcus Rashford to strive to achieve and there is no doubt he is on the right path to achieving that level of success with Manchester United.

Wayne Rooney should not be written off: Rio

Rooney

Wayne Rooney was dropped from the United squad by Jose Mourinho against Leicester City last week after a series of poor performances. The move seemed to have worked as United scored 4 goals in a single half of football blowing away their opposition.

Jose mentioned that he might not play Rooney in today’s Europa League game against Zorya. But Ferdinand believes this is the best thing that could have happened to the 30-year-old forward.

“Wayne Rooney won't feel like this right now but being left out of the Manchester United starting lineup could be the best thing that has happened to him.I think it's ridiculous that at 30 years old, so many people are writing him off.”

“We have seen players like Andrea Pirlo playing at a World Cup when he was 35. Wayne knows the time will soon come that he will be smiling again rather than how he's feeling right now.”

“When you win 4-1 against the champions as United did against Leicester on Saturday, I don't care who it is, it's very hard to change the team. Should Rooney continue to be left out, he will be worried about what effect it may have on his England place.”

Every United fan will be hoping Rooney will get back to his best sooner rather than later but it might be a case of finding his best position on the pitch.
