Robin van Persie: Might become the next Manchester United skipper

Robin van Persie is reportedly set to be named Manchester United’s new captain when the impending arrival of Louis van Gaal is finally announced.

Van Gaal is due to take over shortly at the Red Devils and will officially commence his work once the Netherlands conclude their tournament in Brazil. Van Gaal is currently in Holland with the national side in training and Ryan Giggs, interim manager at United, was spotted in Holland yesterday as rumours begin to gather pace that he will stay at the club as a coach when van Gaal arrives.

However, according to reports, leading journalist Pascal Kamperman believes van Persie will be announced as captain of the club following the departure of Nemanja Vidic to Inter Milan in the summer.

Kamperman told Sky Sports News when asked if he thought van Persie would captain United next season: “Yeah I think so because they do have a good relationship.

“At the beginning when van Gaal took over as the head coach of the Dutch national team they had to find their position a little bit. But after that it went really well and van Persie was very positive about him.

“When van Persie was over here (in Holland) last month because of his injury they talked a lot about the World Cup and the way they like to play in Brazil. So yes he does have a very good relationship with him.”
