Will either of Wayne Rooney or Robin van Persie be dropped for Radamel Falcao?

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has brushed aside reports that claimed he was going to have a surgery on his knee, something that was reportedly postponed so he could lead Netherlands in the 2014 World Cup.

The rumours surfaced after Radamel Falcao was linked to the Red Devils and when he was signed on loan to “replace” the Dutch captain.

I’m not having surgery: Van Persie

But the 31-year-old has come out and said that the surgery rumours were “total nonsense”.

“I am impressed that people have the imagination to invent something like that,” Van Persie said.

“I don’t know where it comes from and I can promise that I’m not going to hospital to have an operation.”

Van Persie welcomes Falcao

The striker also welcomed his new teammate Falcao who signed on loan from Monaco.

“I welcome his arrival, he makes us better.

“At a top club you should always go for the best, which also fits my philosophy.” he added.

But with Falcao’s arrival, he will now compete directly with Van Persie and Wayne Rooney for a spot in the starting XI.

“It is up to Falcao to fight for his place, as I have to as well.

“The two of us, plus Wayne Rooney and James Wilson, we must all fight it out to see who plays.”
