Rumour: Arsenal hope to sign Gareth Barry in the summer

Arsenal are hopeful of landing Manchester City’ Gareth Barry in the summer, who is currently on loan at Everton.

Reports recently emerged, that the Englishman was very close to joining the Gunners last summer, however, the Citizens denied him permission to move to an immediate Premier League contending rival.

The 32-year old has been incredibly impressive for Roberto Martinez this season, which has prompted talks of a possible recall to the national side for the World Cup.

The Everton manager tried to make Barry’s move permenent in January, but the player refused, citing he wanted to keep his options open until the summer, when he becomes a free agent.

A move to the Emirates is sure to excite him, however, question marks over first team football playing time could be a potential road block in the deal.
