Rumour: Atletico Madrid offer Chelsea's Fernando Torres an escape route

Atletico Madrid are willing to offer Fernando Torres a way out of his Chelsea nightmare.

The Spaniard, now 30 years of age, signed for Chelsea in 2011 for £50 million but has struggled immensely in London, having scored just 19 goals in the Premier League since his arrival.

To put that into perspective, his teammate Eden Hazard has scored 14 this season and is predominantly a winger.

According to the Daily Mail, if Chelsea succeed in luring Atletico striker Diego Costa from the club it won’t be in the form of a straight cash and player swap.

The confusion over agent fees would hinder such an obvious trade but Chelsea insiders confirm that Torres no longer has a future at the club.

His struggles have continued this season and somehow managed to get worse with Jose Mourinho only picking him to play when Samuel Eto’o is unavailable.

The Spaniard claimed that he was out to impress Mourinho earlier this week but his performance against Stoke City, in Chelsea’s 3-0 win, was nothing short of abysmal.

His form has tailed off and it continues to as his future at the club grows more uncertain by the week.

Torres has scored just four league goals this season.
