Rumour: Barcelona consider €30 million bid for Arsenal star Mesut Ozil

Mesut Ozil of Arsenal on Barcelona’s radar

FC Barcelona are planning a shocking €30 million move to bring in Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil to Spain.

After appealing FIFA’s one year transfer ban, the restriction has been lifted as of now and Barcelona have time till 30th of June to utilise their resources and rebuild their squad for the next season.

And Ozil seems to be a long term solution for the Blaugranas midfield plans.

Barcelona Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarreta is considering the former Real Madrid man as a prime candidate to insert fresh quality in their midfield. With the heavy reliance on an ageing Xavi and his team-mate Iniesta, Barca have looked out of sorts in recent times which has forced Zubi to rethink his options.

It is not the first time that Ozil has been under Barcelona’s radar as the German was sought prior to the 2011-12 season. But the club representatives chose to bring Fabregas from Arsenal and Ozil was purchased by rivals Real Madrid.

Arsenal bought Ozil from Real for a club record fee of €50 million last summer. Although the Gunners will be reluctant to let go of their star midfielder, Barcelona have been keeping track of his struggling period in north London and are ready to offer €30 million which is €20 million less than what Arsenal paid.

TalkSport‘s Spanish football expert Paul Breen-Turner told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show,“There are reports from Spain that Barcelona will make a move for Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.”

“He was close to joining them in 2011. Ozil is a very serious target for Barcelona and they will make a move. They’re talking about a figure of £30million, although I can’t quite believe Arsenal would even consider” he added.
