Chelsea have agreed a £50 million deal to sign Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa in the summer.

The Spaniard has been in sensational form for Diego Simeone’s side throughout the season, who are currently top of the La Liga table and threatening to end the dominance of city rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.

West London boss Jose Mourinho has been openly critical of Chelsea’s front line throughout the campaign and has been widely linked with a variety of talented forwards.

Current strikers Fernando Torres and Demba Ba are out of favour while loanee Romelu Lukaku’s future is also in doubt, with a dramatic change of personnel expected.

Meanwhile, according to reports in the Metro, a marquee signing for the Portuguese boss appears to have moved one step closer with an agreement having been made between the two clubs, which would see the Brazilian born forward complete the transfer on June 30.

Ironically, the pair will soon face each other in a Champions League semi-final and the Blues’ defence will have a difficult task stopping the 25-year-old from finding the net.

However, Costa picked up a nasty injury during Atleti’s 2-0 victory at Getafe. The forward slid in to guide a cross into the net to give his side a two goal advantage but collided with the post and picked up a deep gash on his leg but should be fit for the date with his potential future employers.

Diego Costa has scored seven goals in six Champions League appearances this season.
