Premier League duo Liverpool and Newcastle United are said to be interested in bringing in one of Ligue 1’s high profile stars, Olympique Marseille’s Andrew Ayew, to England.

The Ghana international has long been touted as one who has attracted the attention of all the big clubs in England, but somehow, a deal has never materialised. The 24-year old winger has only 6 months left on his contract at the French south coast club and thus can be a bargain buy for anyone interested.

Ayew returned this weekend from an injury, and scored one of the goals for his side in a 3-1 victory over Metz. The energetic Ghanian is one of the highest earners at the club at the moment with his salary estimated to be in the whereabouts of €300,000 a month. With Marseille still in some financial difficulties, it looks unlikely that they will pass on an opportunity to sell the talented man this coming window.

Ayew was hotly linked with Newcastle in the summer of 2013 as a replacement for Yohan Cabaye, who had tried to force a move to Arsenal. With Cabaye eventually staying put in the North-East, Newcastle decided against making a move for the African. Ayew has earlier seen his name mentioned with the likes of Liverpool and Everton as well.

“The transfer window, I do not even think of it, what matters to me is to play, to have fun. After that, in football, you do not know what can happen,” Ayew told French media channel Footmercato. “The most important thing for me is to play and win matches with OM.”

Ayew has so far made 140 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille, having scored 37 goals and racking up 12 assists.
