Rumour: Liverpool linked with Udinese's Luis Muriel

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has a contingency plan in place should star striker Luis Suarez decide to leave the club in the summer, with Udinese’s Luis Muriel lined up as his replacement, reports the Express.

The Uruguyuan has been in sensational form this season and is one the best forwards in Europe, but could yet leave Merseyside if Liverpool fail to claim a Champions League spot.

Although the 26-year-old recently committed himself to a long term contract a huge bid is likely to persuade Rodgers to sell his prize asset, but the Northern Irishman has already set eyes on Colombian front man Muriel.

The 22-year-old joined the Serie A side in 2010 and produced a string of impressive performances last term but has struggled to replicate his form this season.

However, he is believed to be available for £20 million and is rated highly in Italy, with plenty of potential.

But considering the minimal impact Iago Aspas has made since his move from Celta Vigo last summer, Liverpool fans will be unimpressed with the news.

Meanwhile, they will harbour hope that Suarez will decide to stay if he can secure a seat at Europe’s top table with the Reds next season.
