Rumour: Manchester United and Chelsea will have to splash out £33m for Napoli’s Marek Hamsik

Italian giants Napoli have put a price-tag of £33 million on the head of Slovakian midfield orchestrator Marek Hamsik, according to the Express.

Hamsik has had a number of potential suitors across Europe in recent years, but it has emerged recently that Manchester United and Chelsea are preparing a bid for the Slovakian international.

Marek Hamsik’s current contract runs out in 2018, but there are suggestions that club chairman, Aurelio De Laurentiis, is willing to cash in on the player in the summer. Hamsik has been at the Naples side for the past seven seasons, however, he has slowly become a bit-part player for the side in recent months under Rafa Benitez.

It was thought AC Milan were prepared to make a move for Hamsik in the January transfer window, but Massimiliano Allegri was replaced by Clarence Seedorf and the move never materialised.

David Moyes’ United side and Chelsea, are now both chasing the central midfielder as both clubs look to bolster their squads ahead of a big season next term.

Hamsik could prefer a move to Manchester United, despite Chelsea’s lure of European football. Moyes is in desperate need of reinforcements in the middle of the park, while Mourinho’s men have a number of players in Hamsik’s position.

With four years left on his current deal, Napoli are adamant they will not sell for less than a hefty £33 million.
