Manchester United close to signing Luke Shaw from Southampton for £30 million

Manchester United are set to secure the services of Southampton left-back Luke Shaw for a transfer fee of £30 million by beating Chelsea to the teenager’s signature.

Recently ousted Manchester United boss David Moyes is believed to have put the deal in place after reportedly convincing Shaw to pick the Manchester club over Chelsea who are also believed to be interested in him.

United are looking to do some major rebuilding in the summer with the club believed to have set aside £150 million for the upcoming transfer window and have offered Shaw wages of £100,000 a-week on a 5-year deal which will make him the highest earning teenage footballer in the country. Chelsea have apparently backed out of the deal after hearing the terms that United were ready to offer him.

Shaw is a Chelsea fan himself and his parents live very close to the London club’s Cobham training centre.

With Southampton demanding £30 million for the 18 year old who penned a new deal just last July and United willing to match that and offer him astronomical wages, Chelsea are now believed to have given up on the left-back who has a chance to go to the World Cup in Brazil ahead of Ashley Cole.

Shaw has started 32 out of Southampton’s 35 games in the Premier League this season and is one of the brightest young prospects in the country. The deal with United, should it go through, will make him considerably richer than the likes of Adnan Januzaj whose new contract, signed in July 2013, offers him wages close to £60,000 a-week.

Shaw had also reportedly been convinced by Moyes that he will be first choice left-back at Manchester United with Patrice Evra comfortable with playing the role of a mentor. With Shaw reportedly wanting his future to be sorted out before the summer World Cup, he is all set to become Manchester United’s first major signing for the 2014-15 season.
