Manchester United look to further bolster their options at the centre of midfield with the Red Devils looking to bring in Nigel de Jong to Old Trafford, according to reports.

After adding Ander Herrera earlier this season, reports suggest that United are ready shell out €10 to take the experienced Dutch defensive midfielder off the hands of AC Milan.

A number of Dutch names has been linked with the Red Devils in past few months ever since Louis van Gaal was announced to be the man in charge for the new season at the Theatre of Dreams.

Kevin Strootman of Roma is suggested to be van Gaal’s primary target. But, whilst the Dutchman recovers from a serious injury, the ex-Barcelona manager is looking elsewhere in trying to add new names to his rank.

It is believed that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, has flown out to Italy to meet representatives of both the player as well as the club to get the deal done.

De Jong already boasts of Premier League experience, having played three seasons for United’s cross town and bitter rivals Manchester City.

De Jong, thus, is already quite aware of the pace and physicality of the game in England. He also would add some much required muscle at the centre of midfield for the Red Devils, something which the Old Trafford faithful thought they would be getting with the signing of Marouane Fellaini.

However, with one disappointing season under his belt, the Belgian now looks likely to be heading to Napoli according to recent reports.

So, the signing of De Jong should make sense on many levels. While the former Hamburg midfield gets to fight for silverware again, van Gaal and United should get a quality midfielder who knows his job at the centre of the park.
