Rumour: Manchester United closing in on new deal for David de Gea

Goalkeeper: David de Gea

Manchester United are believed to be interested in tying goalkeeper David De Gea down to a new long term deal, in order to fend off mooted interest from Spanish giants Barcelona. The club are keen to secure the long term future of their number one, with The Express reporting that they have offered him a deal until 2018.

De Gea joined the club from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has firmly established himself as the club’s number one. The 23 year old has made played every minute of Manchester United’s Premier League campaign this season, keeping seven clean sheets in the process, leaving back-up keeper Anders Lindegaard rooted to the Old Trafford bench.

The new contract would reportedly see his wages rise to £90,000 per week and would keep him at the club for the next four and a half years. He is reportedly attracting interest from his homeland, with Barcelona said to see him as a long term successor to Victor Valdes.

However United will hope that they can nip any interest in the bud by securing De Gea on a long term contract , ensuring that manager David Moyes does not need to add a goalkeeper to his summer wish list.
