Rumour: Manchester United to offer Toni Kroos £260,000-a-week wages to lure him to Old Trafford

Germany - Training & Press Conference

Manchester United are ready to break the bank and are reportedly set to offer Bayern Munich midfielder £260,000 a week should he decide to complete a summer move to Old Trafford.

Kroos has a contract with the Bundesliga champions which runs out at the end of June 2015. Contract talks with the German midfielder have not yielded a breakthrough and Kroos is believed to be considering a move to the Premier League if his wage demands are not met by Bayern Munich.

Striker Wayne Rooney tops the earnings chart at Manchester United for the moment with the striker on a £300,000 per week contract. The terms being offered to Kroos would make him one of the highest earners at the Manchester club alongside Rooney and his strike partner Robin van Persie.

Manchester United have had a bad season with the defending Premier League champions’ title defence never really taking off. United also bowed out of the Champions League with a 2-4 aggregate loss to Kroos’ team last week. Despite the club’s situation, Kroos could join the English giants if he’s being offered astronomical wages.

Bayern Munich confirmed the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Sebastian Rode yesterday and it is being suggested that the defensive midfielder could be a part of a contingency plan for Kroos’ departure.

Kroos, who can play both as a defensive minded midfielder and in the advanced areas of central midfield, will be a great addition to a Manchester United squad who need exactly that kind of player. However, the question of whether the 24-year old is willing to leave a team that is in the running to become the first ever team to defend their Champions League crown to join a club that is supposedly on the way down, remains to be seen.
