Rumour: Rio Ferdinand contacted by QPR over a potential move

Ferdinand was released by Manchester United at the end of the season

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand could find himself with a new club soon as recently promoted Premier League club Queens Park Rangers are keen to add him to their ranks.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp, who managed Ferdinand at West Ham United, remains a huge fan of the defender and hopes to sign him up on a one year deal as soon as possible.

Ferdinand, who has been approached by Aston Villa as well as a couple of clubs from the United States and Turkey, will earn around £80,000 a week if he decides to move to Loftus Road.

If Ferdinand joins the London club, he will be following the footsteps of his brother Anton who was on the books of QPR from 2011 to 2013.
