Manchester United defensive duo Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra could be set to leave the club in the summer due to there being no new contract offers before a new manager has been appointed, according to ESPN.

Both defenders’ contracts expire in the summer and could follow Nemanja Vidic out of the door after the Serbian agreed to sign for Inter earlier this year. Ryan Giggs, who is the interim manager until the club can find a permanent one, is another player whose contract runs out this summer and his future will not be resolved until a new manager is appointed.

United are well aware that the time it takes to find a new manager to replace Moyes could cost them the services of Ferdinand and Evra who will be wanted by some clubs around Europe.

Giggs could well retire from playing this summer and the club know the the trios’ futures are out of their hands.

Ferdinand recently stated that he’d like to stay at the club beyond the summer but as things stand, his future is quite unclear.

There are no transfers lined up to come into the club this summer but the scouting system was revamped by Moyes before his departure and there are still an existing list players that have been scouted and could be targeted over the summer.
