According to the Irish Mirror, Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has apparently handed in a transfer request to leave the Old Trafford club.

Mark Lawrenson, a retired football player who has worked in media outlets like BBC said, “There’s all sorts of rumours coming out of the training ground at the moment,”

“One or two of the press boys that I know that cover Manchester United, they’re even saying that the big whisper is Van Persie might have asked for a transfer on Tuesday.”

Robin van Persie caused an uproar in England last season when he made the £24m switch from arch rivals Arsenal. He was instrumental in the North London side’s fortunes and helping them to Champions League qualification. And last season, he was detrimental to United’s 20th League title.

Van Persie has not played in eight matches this season, primarily due to a groin injury.

Although these reports are unconfirmed, Manchester United would not want to sell their star striker who signed a four year contract last year. But if the news is indeed true, it causes bigger headaches for David Moyes.

Lawrenson continued, “If that happens, that’s going to be a mess for David Moyes.”
