Rumours: Arsenal to launch record breaking bid for Karim Benzema

A FIFA agent has suggested that a Premier League side are pursuing the services of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and are prepared to lodge a £43 million bid in the January transfer window.

The club – thought to be Arsenal – have made their interest known according Francois Gallardo, a respected agent who spoke to Le 10 Sport as The Metro report.

“A very important Premier League club is after Karim,” Gallardo told reporters. “This club wants the transfer to happen this winter, but if this is not possible, then next summer at the latest.

“The offer will be around €50million [£43million].”

Arsenal are thought to be in the hunt for another striker to aid their only senior attacker, Olivier Giroud, and Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of Benzema’s talents.

The French international has struggled for form at Real Madrid this season and reports suggest that he would welcome an exit from the San Bernabeu in the next transfer window.

The striker has scored twice in eight La Liga appearances with a 43% shot accuracy, a statistic which may not encourage Wenger who will be looking to add more goals to his side as Arsenal maintain their title aspirations.
