Manchester United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy has said that he wouldn’t mind Jamie Vardy breaking his record on Saturday if United win the match, Daily Mail reports.
Leicester City welcome the Red Devils to the King Power Stadium in a top of the table clash on Saturday and Vardy has a chance to break Nistelrooy’s record of getting on the scoresheet in 10 consecutive premier league matches, a feat which the Dutch striker achieved in 2003.
Vardy equalled his record when the 28-year-old netted a goal against Newcastle United in a 3-0 win for Leicester last Saturday.
RvN was taking part in a Q&A session at the Oxford Union when he was quizzed about the threat to his 12-year-old record.
“I sent him a message of support last weekend on social media and I really meant it,' the United legend said. 'It would be fantastic for him. I really mean it, records are there to be broken.
“He can score one on Saturday, in fact, I hope he does but hopefully United score three and win 3-1. But no, seriously, if he does it, I'll be delighted for him,” he said.
The 39-year-old took to Instagram in order to show his support to the English striker after Vardy scored in his tenth consecutive match against Newcastle. Ironically, RVN’s last match of the 10-match scoring streak was against the Magpies as well.

Vardy appreciated Nistelrooy’s wishes and thanked him for the same. “I kept getting it [the message] sent to me and fair play to him for doing it. He didn't have to do that,” he said after the match at St. James Park.
Later, in an interview to Sky Sports, the Leicester striker expressed his views on equalling RVN’s record.
“I did not really expect it, but I did not set myself any targets either. I just wanted to make sure I improved on last year, and I've managed to do that.
“To get the 10 in a row is brilliant, but the main thing is the points for Leicester.
“I pinch myself every day anyway. Everyone knows the road I have had in the game, and how I have managed to get myself to where I am today. Obviously it has been tough, but it is nice to be among those names.
“It would be unbelievable [to break the record], but I would only want to get another if we got the three points,” he said.
