Salgaocar FC's juniors hold AIFF EA goalless in U-19 I-League

Margao: Having qualified from the Goa zone and secured a place in the final leg of the U-19 I-League to be played later in the year, Salgaocar’s juniors dished out another impressive performance as they held table-toppers AIFF Elite Academy to a goalless draw in the final league match played at SAG ground in Cuncolim.. With this draw, Salgaocar finished their league engagements in second place with 14 points.

The match was played at a fast pace from the outset, with attacks at either end. Both Goal keepers were outstanding on the day and in particular Chinmaya under the Salgaocar bar and defender Samuel Costa were primarily responsible for keeping the AIFF strikers at bay. one end to the other.

Chinmaya was called into action early and he pulled off a spectacular save from a lob after being in a one-to-one situation with an AIFF striker. At the other end the Greens came close, however, Stefen Fernandes chose to pass as opposed to taking a crack at goal and the ball was duly intercepted.

The second half started where the first half ended with both sides intent on going for the winner. The half was extremely physical with plenty of challenges flying in. Both sides came close on several occasions. Eventually though, neither side was able to break the deadlock and the match finished goalless.

Salgaocar’s juniors have the all-Goa final of the GFA Third Division League to look forward to next, as they take on Portais on the 18th of this month. The Greens have remained unbeaten in the league and have already secured promotion to the Second Division for season 2015-16.
