Salgaocar FC on a roll: U-19s qualify for 2nd Goa Division, U-14s thump Goa United

Salgaocar FC is one big happy family currently, with none of the club's teams able to put a foot wrong. A day after the senior team clinched the Goa Professional League title, the Under-19s went on to beat Chicalim SC 2-0 in a semifinal playoff to qualify for GFA's 2nd Division League for the upcoming season. The Greens will now take on Mangor SC in the finals to decide on December 2 to decide the winner of the Mormugao zone, with Mangor SC also having been promoted.

After having scored a mammoth 43 goals in six league games, four goals being the smallest margin of victory, the Greens came up against a determined Chicalim SC who finished Runners-up in Group A, in the playoff. With a place in the second division at stake, the Chicalim lads put up a stubborn resistance and threw themselves at everything. Coming in to the game as favourites, the Salgaocar Juniors seemed to feel the pressure as they missed several chances in front of goal through the course of the game.

They had to wait until the 25th minute to break the deadlock. Harmanjot Singh did the spade work on the right, dribbling past a couple of defenders before sending in a sublime cross that was met by a sliding Denil Rebello at the far post. The teams went into the breather with the lone goal separating them.

Upon resumption, the Greens could have increased their tally in the first 10 minutes, however resolute defending and poor finishing let them down. The Greens had to wait until the 77th to double their lead. Harmanjot was once again involved as his stiff grounder from slipped out of the keeper’s grasp and from a tight angle Constancio was at hand to effectively seal the game for the Greens.

Meanwhile the club's Under-14s made sure the celebrations didn't end there as they thumped Goa United SA 5-0 in a GFA U-14 First Division League match. The heroes of the win against Dempo juniors, Samward Pereira and Aaron Barreto, who both bagged hattricks in the previous encounter against traditional rivals, were once again in the stars of the day as they both bagged a brace whilst Tyson Silva helped himself to a goal thereby ensuring Salgaocar U14s have now scored 13 goals in the last two encounters having conceded just a lone goal in the process.
