Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has described midfielder Samir Nasri‘s injury as “very serious” and has also claimed that Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa should have been sent off for the nasty challenge.

Manchester City will be facing an anxious wait for further news on the condition of French international Samir Nasri who suffered a knee ligament injury during the club’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Sunday.

The midfielder stayed down for some minutes following a heavy challenge from the Magpies defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who was booked for the lunge and quickly substituted by Alan Pardew.

“[It's] Very serious because I think it was a very unfair kick from the player of Newcastle it was directly red card. I don’t understand why he [Yanga-Mbiwa] wasn’t sent off,” Manuel Pellegrini said after the match.

“Samir Nasri has a problem with his medial ligaments, we’ll see tomorrow how serious, but I don’t think it’s a nice thing, I think it’s serious.”

Nasri is suspected to have a major ligament injury, and it will be a huge blow for the player who will be hoping to avoid an injury similar to the one which will keep Theo Walcott out of this summer’s World Cup.
