Sandro Wieser’s tackle on Yapi-Yapo

FC Zurich are set to take Liechtenstein international Sandro Wieser to court after his brutal tackle on their player Gilles Yapi-Yapo. The incident happened in the 19th minutes as Aarau were trailing Zurich at their own stadium. The tackle was so horrific that 32-year old Yapi-Yapo suffered from five different injuries; a torn anterior and interior cruciate ligaments, serious cartilage damage, meniscus tear, a torn kneecap and deep bruising in his thigh.

Wieser officially apologised for the incident

Wieser apologised on the club website later in a statement that read, "I want to apologise in due form at Gilles Yapi and FC Zurich for the committed foul. It was never my intention to hurt Gilles.

"It is difficult to explain in retrospect, what happened on the field within a fraction of a second. As a young player, I was missing the experience in this situation to correctly assess the situation and I lack the words to explain everything in detail.

"I have visited Gilles still in the dressing room and apologised to him personally and would like to send to take this opportunity once again best wishes to Zurich,” he concluded.

Apology not good enough

Zurich President Ancillo Canepa however rejected the apology and revealed that the club will go to the court, "His knees, just about everything is broken which can be broken. I cannot accept something so simple. This will have consequences."

The game finished 1-0 in favour of Zurich.
